Elden ring players like myself are delighted to find that a new elden ring tarnished edition dlc will be becoming available.
With Nightreign, a multiplayer twist of Elden Ring being released this week 30th May 2025, since the game’s original release on 25th Febuary 2022 and then the DLC of Shadow of the Erdtree released June 2024, players have had some wait for new content, mostly under the impression that nothing new would be being released for the game.
This has changed this month with the creators FromSoftware announcing that a new DLC “Tarnished Edition” is to be hitting the scene. Elden ring tarnished edition is seemingly strategically coinciding with the release of the monstrously expensive Nintendo Switch 2 (around £400), with Nintendo Switch users seemingly getting first access to the tarnished edition. Personally, I have never been interested in switch-type devices and I have to admit that with Elden Ring being available on it with a new tarnished edition does make me think twice.
The new DLC seems to be mostly based on customisation rather than new content/maps so to speak. There will be a few new classes to choose from “The Knight of Ides” and the “Heavy Knight”. There are also 3 new customisations for your horse “Torrent” and four new armor sets. Specific info to what’s available in the DLC and the cost is limited at this point. Some speculate that it may be a free addition to base game owners however I would doubt that.
I once saw Asmongold reacting blown away to the fact that “torrent” was used for the horse name for anti-piracy reasons – in that if you searched “elden ring torrent” in an attempt to try and download a cracked version of the game, you would get a picture of a horse instead. Personally, I don’t buy that whatsoever, torrent I would say is like a torrent of wind, and with your horse being a “spirit animal” summoned by a magical whistle, I think torrent as in “a torrent of wind” is an ample explanation, anyway – I digress. Look out for updates in June to add “Tarnished Edition” to your Elden Ring experience, breathing some new life into a classic game.
My Elden Ring Experience
I was late to the party playing elden ring and after getting a £20 psn voucher from my brother in my Christmas card 2024, after some deliberation I took a chance on Elden Ring, following my barber constantly hyping about it. So personally I’ve been playing it since early 2025 and it has been a big part of my life for quite a few months.
It’s quite a dangerous game to play because once you get a feel for how amazing and mysterious it is, it’s likely that you would become completely consumed by it. I have now completed the base game, completed the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and then been through what’s called “New Game Plus” whereby you can restart the game retaining your map pieces, stats and weapons but with slightly increased difficulty for every time you replay. The added difficulty is not exactly taxing once you’ve got yourself levelled up and so another option would be to just restart completely. I am now working on the task of trying to unlock the lore (story content based on the word “folklore”) and rewards of the impossibly hard to work out NPC interactions in Shadow of the Erdtree. I did live stream the whole experience and will continue to do it, you can check it out on Lemin Games. I’ll likely be trying Nightreign after its release on Friday too. I would recommend live streaming if you try this game because there are so many puzzles and difficult sections, it’s likely many would have given up before unlocking a lot of the awesome content. Through online play you can meet people and get help to get through it.
As someone who lives in Wales, I was really amused and bemused by the amount of Welsh characters in the game. There are some details of the Welsh characters that are so on point, it’s really quite strange that a Japanese development team would include such a little known country to such an extent, frankly i think they glorify the place a little too much but the humor and characters are really excellent. Little nuances such as Blaidd being the Welsh word for “Wolf” would be lost on the masses.
There are bosses in this game that will really test your skills, arguably some of the best challenging bosses ever created. Look out for the Draconian Tree Sentinel, Godfrey, Fire Giant, Melania, Godskin Duo, Messmer and Radahn – the final boss in the DLC. That fight is tricky with a capital T, good luck getting to that point if you haven’t played the game before, you’re going to need it.
